Napa Valley, in California’s wine country, is well-known for having some of the best wine in the world. Many visitors like to cover a lot of territory in Napa, hiring a car to drive them from one winery to another. They can taste a lot of wine, compare and contrast until they’ve had their fill. And that is certainly one fun way to experience Napa wine.
We tried another way. Let’s call it the slow wine method.
Sometimes the best way to experience the true luxury of travel is to slow down. It can be difficult when we’re busy trying to cram every possible adventure into a limited time. But if we take a break from feeding our F.O.M.O. (fear of missing out), we can be truly present during an experience. Slowing down allows our senses to thoroughly enjoy the wonderful sights, scents and tastes that are the reason we travel in the first place.
We went to one Napa winery, Silverado Vineyards, and stayed put. Enjoying an in-depth, leisurely visit felt like an indulgence all its own. During our Napa wine experience, we learned about the history of the vineyard and saw the processes used in making the wine. We did some tastings, then chatted and relaxed while enjoying a beautiful view of Napa wine country.
Savor a Napa wine experience at Silverado Vineyards
Good wine is meant to be savored, contemplated, enjoyed. The folks at Silverado Vineyards know that. They have created an exceptional environment to facilitate the subtle sensory pleasures that wine inspires. Several different tour and tasting options allow you to choose just what you’re looking for, whatever your level of wine appreciation.
Our education began by learning that the Stags Leap District is a neighborhood of winegrowers, not a specific winery. In fact, there are actually different wineries that use Stags Leap in their name. What makes this region unique is that it is one of the most exceptional areas in the world for growing grapes. In particular, the rich and well-loved Cabernet Sauvignon thrives here.
A passion for Napa and wine
Walt Disney’s granddaughter Diane, and her husband Ron Miller, founded Silverado Vineyards in 1981 after they fell in love with the area. Since then, they’ve expanded and enhanced their winery, which now spans six vineyards on some 400 acres. The grapes are organically and sustainably farmed. Unlike romantic portrayals in movies, making good wine actually takes a lot of hard work, expertise and dedication. Fortunately, the folks at Silverado have expertise and commitment that’s been seasoned over time. The result is delicious wine and a lovely environment in which to appreciate it.
The Silverado Vineyards terrace offers an unparalleled opportunity to lounge in luxury
As part of your Napa wine experience, you can take a tour of the winery that includes an education in the wine-making process. As an extra treat, you’ll see hallway walls adorned with unique vintage posters. The site has lots of other curated artwork as well. A warmly decorated Mediterranean-inspired tasting room provides elegant surroundings for your own special dinner or event.
Napa wine from Cabernet Sauvignon to Chardonnay
The Silverado Vineyards terrace offers an unparalleled opportunity to lounge in luxury. The view is no less than spectacular and makes a perfect backdrop for tasting wine. Wine varieties produced extend beyond the big, bold, beautiful Cabernet Sauvignon to include a luscious array of Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Malbec, Sauvignon Blanc, Malbec, Sangiovese and Merlot.
To plan the perfect Napa slow wine experience, make an appointment and choose the tasting you prefer. The ultimate Silverado Experience includes an art tour, terrace seating, and history notes from a vineyard ambassador with a rare and small production wine tasting. The Saddle Block Tasting offers you a taste of wine while you relax right in the vineyard where the grapes are grown. Library room and casual tastings are perfect when you just feel like stopping by without an appointment.
Rather than buzzing through Napa with a buzz, we recommend slowing down to enjoy your wine a bit.
Allow yourself to luxuriate in top-rated wine, gorgeous views and get a breath of fresh air you sometimes don’t get while on a trip.
